Alongside my own writing, I have extensive experience providing editorial support for research projects related to international aid, contemporary history, and current affairs. This role takes many different forms – from accompanying a project as it evolves, to structural editing on established drafts, to coaching and mentoring. I have helped early career researchers in project development, sense-making, and writing skills; I can step in when experienced writers need a fresh pair of eyes or hands. I enjoy exploring and enhancing the research of others and the problem-solving dimension that is often involved.
I have built this experience across multi-disciplinary academic and applied research settings. As Research Editor at Humanitarian Advisory Group, I supported individuals and teams to design, carry out, and disseminate projects ranging from agenda-setting research to practitioner-oriented guidance and recommendations, from programming evaluations to strategic reviews. While at the University of Manchester, I was Director of Postgraduate Research for the Humanitarian and Conflict Response Institute and supervised student research notably at PhD and Masters levels. I have served on the Conseil Scientifique of the Fondation Croix-Rouge Française and the British Academy International Engagement Committee, and on steering groups for Merlin, the Humanitarian Policy Group at ODI, and Save the Children UK. I was a member of the Editorial Board of French Historical Studies from 2016-19 and, earlier, Editorial Assistant on Disasters journal. Outlets I have peer reviewed for include: American Historical Review; Disasters; French Historical Studies; Humanity: An International Journal of Human Rights, Humanitarianism, and Development; International Relations; The Journal of Genocide Research; The Journal of Intervention and Statebuilding; Law and Social Inquiry; Peacebuilding; Third World Quarterly, The British Academy, The Independent Social Research Foundation, Manchester University Press, and Cambridge University Press.
